A Popular and Educationally Effective Mystery Video Game
May 7th, 2009Drug Scene Investigators (DSI) is an interactive, web-based, video game that educates students in 7th to 9th grade about the biology of drug abuse. In this problem-solving mystery game, students try to identify the drugs involved in drug-related cases. Student teams experience the challenges faced by scientists as they read case stories, gather library information, interview witnesses, seek clues in scenes, run simulated lab experiments, analyze data, interpret results, formulate hypotheses, draw conclusions, and receive feedback.
DSI is designed for health curricula or after-school use. Six cases, each occupying one class period, will be pilot tested starting in January 2010. We seek educators to participate in this controlled pilot test. The evaluation is free of charge. Teachers who help can use DSI for the next year without charge and will be reimbursed $50 for assistance.
